Maps, SIPOC, Flow Charts Overview |
|
Process maps and Flow Charts are important
first step in six sigma projects. Flow charts
are usually included in the 'seven quality
tools'. SIPOC diagrams are an effective
way of ensuring that customers and suppliers
are not overlooked.
A tool that shows the inputs, activities
and outputs from a process:

A series of activities aimed
at the conversion of inputs into value added
outputs:

Often used as a synonym for Flowchart,
although some authorities distinguish between
the two. Process maps have more detail and
include a timeline.
SIPOC stands for "Supplier Inputs
Outputs and Customers". A SIPOC Diagram
is created during the 'Define' phase of
a Six Sigma project to ensure that the Suppliers,
Inputs, Process, Outputs and Customers have
been identified and are agreed by all the
team members.
