| Design Failure
Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) is a type
of Failure Mode
& Effects Analysis (FMEA)
that is carried out at the design stage.
DFMEA investigates the ways that the design
can fail in service, and the consequences
of the failures. It includes investigating
the possibility of the design being used
in ways that were not intended and the effects
of different environments.
The failure modes for a step
ladder could include potential failure because
a component could corrode and fail. They
could also include a potential failure because
the user's foot could slip on the treads.
