If I had extension tubes I may have photographed
the bug (showing as black dot). I used External
Flash on this one. Is this a good idea for macros?

I liked the effect with External Flash so I took
some photos of leaves with flash. Does this work
OK?

This corea was shot in Macro with External Flash
and then without in Natural light. The colors
and shadows are different. Which one do you prefer
and why?

This is one of the old photos. In this shot there
is a bit of backlighting effect. There was also
a very blurred mesh in the background. Kangaroo
paw is a flower from Western Australia.

This bug was happily eating water lettuce on our

I took many photos of the seagulls chasing the ferry.
This one had the most interesting DoF.

These photos are off-topic but very interesting
so I included them here. We went cycling
on Saturday and saw a flock of cockatoos
(wild ones, not pets) near the station where
we left our car. I am not sure how the ribbon
came to be on the tree (it was about 3m
above the ground) but it provided a training
ground for the parrots. They took turn in
swinging and climbing the ribbon. It looked
like army training! They are pretty clever
birds and related to New Zealand snow parrots
keas which are even cleverer. I read that
one kea stole a passport of a Scottish tourist
last week (it was in a small bag that the
kea pinched and flew away with into the
remote parts of a national park - never
to be seen again).
